The Baltic city of Gdansk was subject to extensive regeneration following the onslaught of the Luftwaffe during the Second World War; a key company that sprung up during the resultant economic boom was the lighting manufacturer ‘Polam Wilkasy’. With experience in the lighting industry dating back to 1955, they had many years to perfect their industrial lighting designs and as such, by the 1980’s when these pendants were crafted, their functionality for use in highly industrialised environments had reached a pinnacle.

Their rugged sealed enclosure, glass dome and protective cage resulted in a seriously robust fitting which gained the accolade ‘Explosion-Proof’. Salvaged from a decommissioned factory in the Czech Republic, these pendants were stretched along the entire length of a subterranean workers passageway.
In the 80’s, casting moulds were delicate so small imperfections generated through manual cleaning were forever embedded in the surface of the next moulding. During their restoration, the cast aluminium enclosures underwent a sympathetic vapour blasting process which revealed, to our surprise, some fabulous surface textures which are unique from pendant to pendant.

Each pendant arrives complete with a new ceramic E27 lamp holder, one metre of black cable, one metre of steel chain and a ceiling mounting plate. Complete and ready to hang.
